Has Jealousy Become a Part of You?

1 Samuel 18:1-30 eludes to King Saul’s jealousy concerning David. God was definitely blessing David after his steps of faith. After all he faced a giant and won a victory. There are several words that describe jealousy. 1) envy   2)covetousness 3) resentfulness  4) desirousness  5) suspiciousness —  What we see in 1 Samuel is that King Saul made a human promise to whoever killed Goliath, that he would take care of them and their family. What actually happened is that David trusted God wholly and won the victory over the giant because he stood on behalf of God. The actual events unfold here- King Saul becomes jealous of God’s blessings on David and plots to kill David. We have seen this sort of jealousy with Cain and Abel.

What is most important? Why do you become jealous? I notice this in people around me. If one person gains favor with a leader oftentimes there is jealousy and so many times anger hits a heart. Fortunately we all find God’s favor as we trust and obey. But the requirement of obedience is key.

Is jealousy eating you up for some reason? Ask God to change your views about this situation. At various times and places I have felt jealousy. But God has quickly helped me recognize that position of jealousy is “wrong” thus I confessed it to God and asked for Him to take that thought of jealousy right out of my heart and mind. Of course He answered my prayer! He will answer your prayers as well. We also have to make sure we are not putting people in the position around us to become jealous of us for some reason. I heard a fine speaker one day say, “well if you are jealous or if they are jealous of me for some reason, it is their choice.” I am not sure that is accurate. I can’t see being jealous is a choice we make, simply because that position of jealousy is so dangerous and could cause bitterness.

Just think about it! Has jealousy become a part of you?

Proverbs 2:6-8 says….. “For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He holds victory in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for He guards the course of the just.”
