Have You Ever Read “the Church” Classified Ads?

This morning I went to the mail box a little later than normal time. I began read the mail that was of interest to me. I pulled out a Baptist Newspaper and it read the classified ads for open positions in the churches. I am always curious how churches are doing. At first glance I read the first ad for…

“Sr. Pastor needed- seminary degree, experience, between the ages of 30 to 45- and with excellent people skills; and dedication to God’s word and His People!” (the ad never said we want to reach our community, our world for Christ)

The next church advertisement was for a full-time Pastor read as follows: “We are seeking an energetic and innovative minister who can recognize the untapped potential of influence in our community and restore our church to its…Vibrant Past.” Preference will be given to those candidates who have obtained a doctorate.

The first ad is basically biased about certain age-groups not being their pastor.

The second ad is sadly looking backwards so that they can become “it’s Vibrant Past.”

Take time today to re-examine the reflection of your words! Now I know these ads are heart-felt and genuine! But what is the Church reflecting to the world?

My thought on these church advertisements is– that God does not show favoritism towards any man. He ordains men who are called by Him to go preach and teach. It is my prayer that churches will fast and pray and change the “wish list” and wait on God!

Do you have a response to these ads?

Acts 9:31

31- Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace. It was strengthened; and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it grew in numbers, living in the fear of the Lord.

E.M. Bounds said….” “What the Church needs to-day is not more machinery or better, not new organizations or more and novel methods, but men whom the Holy Ghost can use — men of prayer, men mighty in prayer. The Holy Ghost does not flow through methods, but through men. He does not come on machinery, but on men. He does not anoint plans, but men, men of prayer.”
