Social NeTworking

Social networking is the rage. People can network with people literally across the globe. I have know some women who get so wrapped up in Face Book that they spend endless hours reading and communicating. Twitter leaks out vital information and sometimes information that should not be granted.

What I have learned is, unless I am purposeful in conversing with other people I will loose my verbal communication skills. I do not like to hear myself talk. I am not a good speaker. I prefer to write and not talk, thus I have to push myself sometimes when it comes to talking to others. I also find it difficult as well to get some people to talk because they have been so isolated because of “technical communication” they have a hard time wanting to talk at all.

I also find in scripture we are to be given to “hospitality.”

1 Peter 4:9
Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.

Romans 12:13
Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

What is hospitality? On Answers.com hospitality is: n., pl., -ties.

  1. Cordial and generous reception of or disposition toward guests.
  2. An instance of cordial and generous treatment of guests.

Thus social networking is being cordial and generous. Take the challenge today. Try the practice of hospitality. Invite a person into your company or your home and spend face time with them. Let me know how it goes!

I have joined a Bible study with a group of women I do not know. I am wondering the outcome of the small group. I am in the third week, so I will be looking for an opportunity to invite someone to my home to be generous and cordial.

What are your stories? Click on “Comment” and send us your remarks concerning social networking or genuine hospitality! Some social people will become long term acquaintances while others may be friends for a season of life! It is simply difficult to build quality long-lasting friendships because of changes and life’s situations. But first and in the forefront of your life, network with Christ in pray and Bible study!
