My heart is grieved today as I consider the rash of ministerial terminations lately. Years ago, pragmatism crept into our thinking. Pragmatists say, “If it works great — if it doesn’t work throw it away!” This bent toward utilitarianism has now infected every area of our lives. We have disposable diapers, disposable razors, disposable cell phones, and now we have disposable ministers. If a pastor or staff member doesn’t perform well they are dismissed, often with little thought of restoration or reclamation. Judas was a underperforming minister. Yet Jesus did not dismiss him. Jesus worked with him, he didn’t exclude him. He gave Judas every chance to repent and make better decisions. In time, Judas took care of himself without Jesus having to be ugly toward him. Pray for your pastor. Encourage him. These men of God are not perfect, but still they are not to be lightly tossed aside either.

Good word! Thanks you for the insights! Definitely need to pray for our pastors.
