I have been doing a Bible study the last two mornings on the deceitfulness of sin. My hunch is people tend to be blind to their own shortcomings. Now after barely scratching the surface of scripture and seeing how many references there are to deceit and deceitfulness, I am sure in some areas of my life I have been deceived in the past and maybe still am today.
The Bible explains that the world, the flesh, the heart, the devil, false teachers, and sin are all deceitful. ”There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death” (Proverbs 14:12).
Here are some questions to ponder:
- Does a deceived person know they are deceived?
- Are good people ever deceived?
- Does sincerity make one correct?
My preliminary conclusion is, American Christians (me included) may be in deeper trouble than we realize. What do you think? Post your comments here.
