If It Were Not So

 

If it were not so

Why do birds soar to heights

–and tiny flowers bloom

If it were not so

We’d not hear God’s voice?

 

Ever dream a dream

Escape into the unforeseen-

Does a candle burn unending

If it were not so–

Would we dare to exist?

 

Life’s chaotic harmonies

Sing tunes of unrest

What’s the image within-

Could we hold back our fears–

If it were not so?

 

Would we be forgiven

Or understand God’s love-

If it were not so

Could the rain dance-

–or would life be by chance?

 

We’d miss His mercies-

If it were not so!
