Psalms 119: 111 & 112…. “Your statutes are my heritage forever;
they are the joy of my heart. My heart is set on keeping your decrees
to the very end.
When our kids were young Mitch was quiet the story-teller! He would talk about cowboys and Indians as he made up a story. He was an awesome storyteller! But the funniest thing he would say is, “this is the story of my life!” I always laughed about that because the stories were always those of bravery and adventure.
Just recently, Mitch and I were talking about his ancestors. He had become of all things, a citizen of the Chickasaw Nation through the bloodline of his mother. I had known about his great, great Grandpa Cortez Stubblefield who was a “horse-riding cowboy preacher.” So finally the link in my mind came as I laughed and said to him, “Well you are cowboy and Indian after all, and all those stories you told the kids were true?” We did have a laugh about it.
The greatest thing about the Chickasaw citizenship is now our two young adult children are members of the Chickasaw Nation. Not only does it help them to identify there heritage but it also provides college scholarships and grants. Our son has taken his Chickasaw Constitution to his office at work and has told people in his area that, “these are my people now!” Of course it has been fun for this awakening in their lives– to actually have a bloodline with the Chickasaw Nation.
Our identity is awesome. But as we include Christ as the focal point we will see the greater picture of who we are! We have a bloodline from Christ and we must look at other people whoever there kinship is and see them as Christ. Every person has value and each day we must maintain that we are no better than the other nation, tribe, or race!
Who are you? Do you know Christ as the head of your life? Truly know Christ is the ultimate answer to “who your are!”
Our family has been enlightened and it has been great fun~ So I guess Mitch is truly a “Cowboy and Indian” after all~
