Just-In-Time

Two events from the life of Jesus (Matthew 17:24-27 and Matthew 21:1-7) show how God provides just-in-time.  As has often been said, “God’s grace is rarely early, never late, but always on time.”  In the passages cited above the Lord needed a coin and a donkey.  The Heavenly Father graciously and faithfully provided for His Son, but the gifts did not arrive until they were needed.

Why doesn’t God give us everything we need ahead of time, so we can put into a savings account, and not have to worry about it?

God wants us to trust Him, not the bank.  He wants us to quietly and submissively rely on Him.  The delay of God’s provision is so that we might depend on Him and discover for ourselves that God is reliable.

Listen to this testimony from one who witnessed God’s faithfulness, “I have been young and now I am old, but I have never seen the righteous forsaken or his descendants begging bread” (Psalm 37:25).

God has brought us too far to abandon us now.

Today (and always) let’s act like Jesus.  Notice in the focal passages how Jesus behaved before the gifts arrived.  We don’t see Jesus worried, pacing back and forth, or wringing His hands in despair.  He is in fact almost nonchalant about the situation.  He is totally relaxed, because He is absolutely confident in God’s provision.  We can and we must have that same kind of confidence in God, knowing His provision will be just-in-time.
