Godly Compassion

Richard Baxter wrote… “We must feel toward our people as a father toward his children; yea, the most tender love of a mother must not surpass ours. We must even travail in birth, till Christ be formed in them. They should see that we care for no outward thing, neither liberty, nor honor, nor life, in comparison to their salvation… When the people see that you truly love them, they will hear anything from you…Oh therefore, see that you feel a tender love for your people in your hearts, and let them perceive it in your speech and conduct. Let them see that you spend and are spent for their sakes.”

The first day after Christmas and you are wondering “now what?” Do I go to the mall to find the sale items I really want for myself, or do you find a friend who is lonely and in need of God’s compassion?

Today many family members will say good-bye and take off –on their journey home. My prayer today is, “Lord move me with compassion for the lost, the lonely, the broken people who need heaven’s touch.” When we extend our lives to touch others, now that is a godly compassion. Step outside your comfort zone and walk where God leads you today. You will notice real compassion because Christ’s love will flow freely through you.

Philippians 2:1-2 “Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose.”
